Have you always seen yourself as an entrepreneur? That's such an interesting question, I used to think of myself as more creative and not necessarily entrepreneurial, but little did I know that creativity and entrepreneurship sort of go hand in hand. Entrepreneurs use their creativity to bring new products to life and navigate the business world. Deep down I think the spirit of entrepreneurship has always been a part of me and I was constantly seeking out opportunities to create new products that solve problems, even if I didn't realise it at the time.

How did you come up with the idea for Contour Cube? It was definitely inspired by my mom when she encouraged me to start icing my skin and I quickly found that I loved the feeling of it and how great it made my skin feel. It gave me that instant wake me up in the morning, but I quickly realised it was such an awkward, messy and slippery process. I was really surprised to find that there was no tool for making the process easier – even though the concept had been around for such a long time. I realised I’d found a gap in the market!

Your first post went viral on Tiktok – did you always plan on social media being a key to your success? We just didn't realise how important it would be for our growth. I’d been on TikTok for about a year, just kind of scrolling and trying to understand the platform, then I stumbled upon a small business TikTok community. I was so drawn to the authenticity and the relatability of the content - the behind the scenes of their business, like packing orders which was really refreshing to see. So when we launched the product on TikTok, we kind of wanted to use the platform to test the market. It just resonated with so many people so quickly, not just within Australia, but around the world. It was a great way to build an online community, but also get real time feedback from our customers as well, which was really helpful in launching new products after that.

Kendall Jenner posted about Contour Cube, what was that like for you? It was very surreal. We woke up one morning and my partner was confused why there were suddenly so many sales. I looked at my phone and had all these messages from my friends saying, ‘Kendall just posted about your product!!’ Mind. Blown. It was wild because it was just an organic post and made such a massive difference to our brand.

Can you give us three tips for growing a business with social media? Be consistent. Keep showing up consistently. From there, I think you'll understand what your audience wants to see from you and you'll be able to align your content with your audience's interests. The other thing would be to be authentic and tell your story, be honest and transparent and share your experiences in a personal way. Don’t be afraid of showing your personality and adding humour in your videos. Lastly create content that inspires, educates and entertains.

You recently went on SharkTank and successfully gained four investors, what does that mean for your business? I think securing four investors was a huge deal for our business. It's like a big thumbs up from very successful industry leaders who believe in what we're doing and want to be a part of it. I think having mentors as well who have been through the challenges of scaling your business and the ups and downs will be a game changer for us. We've had to figure out everything on our own but now we've got that experience to guide us.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far in the Contour Cube journey? Sometimes, it's not really about what you know, but how you're willing to figure things out. We've also realised the importance of staying focused on our business and our journey. I think there are always people trying to jump on the bandwagon or distract you, but I think it's really important to stay true to your path and not get too emotional about external factors.

What’s next for you and the brand? We want to continue pioneering the chilled skincare space. We're in the midst of product development at the moment.
