#IWD22
International Women’s Day
Today is International Women’s Day, a day that is marked around the world to raise awareness against gender bias, celebrate women’s achievements and take action for equality.
Every year on this day, fundraisers, lunches, marches and events are held around the world with many either in person or online should anyone wish to join in.
Each year also has a theme, with 2022’s being Changing Climates: Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow, which celebrates women and girls around the world who are working to change the climate of gender equality.
This years’ hashtag is #BreakTheBias, which is about creating a world free of discrimination that is diverse, equitable and inclusive.
HOW CAN YOU CELEBRATE:
Hold your own event – either with your school, in your neighbourhood or take part in one online.
Take a photo of yourself like Franc, with your arms crossed in front of their chest to represent the #BreakTheBias theme this year.
Use the #IWD22 hashtag to be part of an online conversation.
You can show support by dressing in campaign colours purple, green and white to represent justice, dignity, hope and purity.
DID YOU KNOW? The first official International Women’s Day was in 1975 when it was recognised by the United Nations (UN).
