Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama. To some she’s known as the wife of the 44th President of the United States of America. To others, she’s recognised as a mum, distinguished lawyer and proud advocate for childhood health and education. She is also known for her guest role on Seseame Street and her epic appearance in James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke.

We love her because she is such an impassioned advocate for girls, for education and health and for women’s rights. All of which we’re very passionate about here at Franc.

In 2010 she launched Let’s Move! The initiative saw community leaders work together to provide more nutritious food in schools, bring healthy and affordable food into underserved communities, plant vegetable gardens across America, and provide new opportunities for kids to be more active.

She is also a proud supporter of women’s rights around the world. When, in 2014, more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls were abducted from their school by terrorist group Boko Haram, Michelle leant her support to the #bringbackourgirls campaign which raised awareness of their plight and put pressure on other countries to support the Nigerian government’s rescue efforts.

She is also known to be an eloquent, thoughtful speaker. Here are some of her wonderful quotes below;

“Don’t be afraid. Be focused. Be determined. Be hopeful. Be empowered.”

“When they go low, we go high.”

“The difference between a broken community and a thriving one is the presence of women who are valued.”

“No matter who you are, no matter where you come from, you are beautiful.”
