THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER
There is a lot to unpack in latest instalment of this well-loved blockbuster franchise. It’s a fast-paced, high action adventure/comedy/drama which manages to be bigger and bolder than any of the prior three Thor films – and that’s saying a lot. Franc was lucky enough to see it at Event Cinemas in 4DX– which added moving seats, 3d glasses, great gusts of wind and sprays of water to the experience. WOW!!
Love and Thunder picks up the storyline with Thor’s ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together with King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Korg (Taika Waititi), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) must embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of Gorr the God Butcher’s Christian Bale) vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
There are a lot of dark scenes in this instalment, along with death and sadness, so it’s certainly for older tweens and teens. It’s also a good idea to see the previous films, as even though Love and Thunder can stand alone as a good movie, so much more is added to the storyline if you understand the back story.
SYNOPSIS Thunder finds the God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But Thor’s retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late. Directed by Taika Waititi (“Thor: Ragnarok,” “Jojo Rabbit”) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum
