Choc Chip Cookies
Okay so this really isn’t a recipe post as baking cookies from a pack doesn’t really require step-by-step instructions! But as packet mixes like cakes and biscuits often have a bad reputation, we thought we should highlight some of their advantages!
They’re a great education tool for independent learning. From learning about cup and spoon measures to oven temperatures, packet mixes are a perfect first step for beginner bakers who really want to be independent in the kitchen but still need some support.
They’re ideal for school lunches. To ensure they remain a treat, bag or wrap each cookie individually then freeze the lot, they can then be pulled out one at a time and added to school lunches whenever a sweet something is required.
They’re versatile. Take the humble choc chip cookie. Instead of adding just choc chips, why not add half chocolate and half walnuts, or a mix of chocolate, nuts and dried cranberries? (Note: Just ensure they’re all ‘dry’ mix-ins of a similar weight and size.) Otherwise, bake cookies as per the packet instructions, then while they’re still warm, top with ice-cream to make a delicious ice-cream sandwich! Yum!
They’re fast and easy. Well, obviously! But they’re really great to have on hand when a hoard of hungry tweens/teens need a snack, whether that’s after school, on the weekend or after dinner, when only a still-warm melty, choc-chip cookie will do.
Enjoy!
