Top Five Coolest Things To See in Japan

Known for its stunning geisha and cherry blossoms, its technology, sushi and super cute stationary, this is one country that is top of our ‘Must visit after Covid lists’. Here are the top five things we cannot wait to see/try in Japan.

1.     Geisha. These stunningly beautiful women are traditional entertainers in Japan and have been part of Japanese culture for centuries. They’re known for their beautiful kimono (dress), perfect hair and skills in traditional arts like singing, dance and performing a traditional tea ceremony. The best place to see them is in Kyoto and for more hints and tips on spotting them read here. https://japancheapo.com/entertainment/where-to-see-geisha-in-kyoto/

2.     Cherry Blossoms. When the blossoms begin to bloom, parks, shrines and gardens across the country become awash with pink. Locals love to take food and picnic under them which makes it a great (cheap!) way for the whole family to enjoy. As different trees in different areas bloom at different times each year, the JWA (Japan Weather Association), announce cherry blossom forecasts every spring.

3.     Stationery. It’s all so cute and so colourful with fun little stickers, pretty paper, pastel pens, and all the things in miniature! We love https://www.tokyu-hands.co.jp/en/ as a first stop.

4.     Sushi! We love it in Australia. So imagine how good it will taste in its place of origin? Nervous about knowing which sushi is which? Take a look at this super handy poster on Etsy – this one’s going straight to the pool room for us! https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/599401319/sushi-art-sushi-poster-sushi-guide

5.     Vending Machines. I know these may not top everyone’s top five lists. But seriously, you can buy all sorts of things in vending machines in Japan. Apart from the usual drinks and snacks, you can buy umbrellas, tshirts, fresh fruit, toys, flowers and even hot bread baked fresh in a can! Can. Not. Wait.

DID YOU KNOW? At slightly over 5 million nationwide, Japan has the highest density of vending machines worldwide.
