Tween Back-to-School Backpack Essential Items

As a girl nears her teen years, packing a bag takes on a new spin. Whether your are packing for the first day of a new school year, for a sports activity, or for a sleepover, there’s some essential things she shouldn’t be without. Today we’re sharing backpack essentials for tween girls this school year.

Feminine Products

It’s a good idea to pack some pads in your tween’s backpack if she hasn’t started her monthly cycle. To help her be discreet, consider placing them in a small cosmetic bag that she can easily carry to the restroom. Although there’s usually some warning signs before she starts, menstruation cycles are highly unpredictable in the early years. You don’t want her to be caught off guard. A great alternative to bulky pads are period underwear. These are leak-proof and absorbent. They’re excellent for young girls who may not always remember to change their pads regularly.

Mints or Hard Candies - Fresh breath is always important, especially after lunch.

Money - In case of an emergency, it’s always a good idea for her to have some cash on hand.

Hand Sanitizer – Even without Covid, this is a must!

Sunscreen – A non-negotiable even if recess or physical education are indoors and it’s a cloudy day.

Chapstick – A lip balm or chapstick can help nourish and moisturize her lips throughout the day.

Water Bottle – Hydration is key.

Snacks – A girl can never have too many snacks.

Hair Brush – A folding or compact brush can help her look her best throughout the day. It’s even better if the brush has a mirror attached.

Hair Ties – No matter how many you buy, they always end up disappearing. Have a spare few in your bag for girls on the go.

Phone Charger – If your tween has a phone, consider packing a charger in case of emergency. You may also want to pack a portable power bank, which doesn’t require a wall outlet.

Contact Information – Although she may know this stuff, it’s always a good idea to have important numbers and names written down for her. In an emergency, it’s easy to forget.
