Zombie Diaries, Apocalypse Cow was one of Franc’s absolute favourites this month. A laugh-out-loud graphic novel set in the (imaginatively named) town of Buttburgher. The story line is relatively simple, ‘the zombies are cows! Literally! Everyone is moo-ing and drooling all over the place! And if their drool gets on you, you’re toast! (And not the nice sourdough toast from Horatio’s Bakery either). However, it is rich in humour, clever writing and great illustrations by Jake Minton.

Perfect for emerging readers and fans of The Last Kids on Earth and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

The Baby-Sitters Club Good-Bye Stacey, Good Bye is proudly part of the original Baby-Sitters Club series that was so popular in the 1980s (not that any of us are old enough to remember that decade!!). However where this book departs is that it’s created in the style of a graphic novel making it very appealing for younger readers who struggle with wordy novels.

There are several books in this graphic novel series, all of which are full of energy, sweet storylines and plenty of heart. They’re also a great stepping-stone to the original series, providing an easy introduction to more advanced novels.

Cameron Battle and the Hidden Kingdoms is an adventure-filled fantasy inspired by West African and Igbo (people living chiefly in southeastern Nigeria), history and mythology.

The first book in the series, the Hidden Kingdoms introduces readers to Cameron Battle as he begins his journey to the magical land of Chidani, where, together with his two best friends he must save the people, defeat an evil Queen and maybe even find his parents. Written by US-based author Jamar J. Perry, the series was created to engage reluctant readers and to show young boys of colour that they can all be heroes in their own stories.
